I celebrated my anniversary yesterday, and drank a lot (read: a glass of wine and two ciders). and then played Spirit of the Century until 5am! I am trying to stick to at least one blog post a week, though, so despite my current incoherence, I'm going to post.
Since I just woke up (oh god, my precious Sunday, half-gone already), I'm going to post about breakfast and breakfast foods!
The Basics:
Market Pantry Oatmeal: Comparable. Yep, that's oatmeal, alright. Comparing oatmeals is a bit like comparing flour- all brands are going to taste the same, unless you're unlucky enough to get the brand that's actually made out of textured cardboard. I can't really call this "good", because an oatmeal's awesomeness or lack of awesomeness is 100% dependent on what you put in it. Moving on.
Market Pantry Buttermilk Waffles: Decent. They're weirdly rubbery for waffles, though, and have a strange consistency. I suspect they might be half sawdust.
Market Pantry French Bread: Good! This bread is surprisingly soft and flavorful, and is great for breakfast- or for making delicious French Bread pizza. It's also really cheap!
(I haven't forgotten about cereals. I think generic cereals are worthy of an entire post. I don't eat cereal very much anymore these days, but I spent pretty much my whole childhood eating generics. Mmm, delicious Toucan O's.)
The Toppings:
Market Pantry Creamy Peanut Butter: Good! This peanut butter tastes just like Jiff peanut butter.
Market Pantry Raspberry Preserves: Good! It tastes just like Smucker's. I can't vouch for the other flavors, but boyfriend has tried strawberry and grape, and says they're a good match for the Smucker's jams.
Market Pantry Maple Syrup, Light: Decent. It has that kind of alcoholish/fake-vanilla-ish taste that a lot of cheap syrups have, but lacks the terrible fake buttery aftertaste I've often encountered. The regular version might be better, but we have to cut calories where we can *said while cramming Nutella into face*.
The Sweet, Sweet Caffeinated Drinks of the Gods:
Market Pantry Hazelnut Coffee: Hnnng! I wasn't expecting generic Target coffee to be this good, but the hazelnut blend is pretty damn tasty for the money.
Market Pantry Classic Blend Coffee: Better Side of Decent. I drink my coffee like a wuss with lots of sugar and cream, but it's better than Starbucks coffee (although I could probably make better coffee than Starbucks coffee out of beard trimmings and fertilizer).
Market Pantry French Roast Coffee: Shittier side of Mediocre: This coffee was pretty weak, and not really that tasty. It tasted almost but not entirely unlike a French roast blend.
Kirkland Signature Japanese Green Tea: Lest you think I am but a corporate shill for Target! (I buy a lot of food from Target because it's generally cheaper than food at Giant, and because it's on our way home from the metro station.) This is Decent. It has an odd, musky aftertaste that's almost reminiscent of yerba mate teas, but it's not unpleasant if you don't mind that kind of thing.
Tetley Tea British Blend: I don't know if this is actually a generic brand or not, but I'm including it here because it's so cheap, and I was tempted because of it. It's not fucking worth it. This is Terrible. This tea is weak, insipid, and has an awful flavor to boot. It tastes nothing like other British Blend teas I've tried- it's more like British Bland.
Anyways, I'm off to coffee a boyfriend. Thanks for reading, and, as always, give anything you'd like to see me review a mention in the comments below!
